A lot of the same principles apply for modeling, business, and senior portraits.
So please read through our website and see all portfolios, and get inspired.
Then we can use those ideas and examples as a starting point for our conversation
and collaborate on the look and style that is perfect for you and your specific needs and wishes.
We go in depth into our plan, branding, style, what needs to be conveyed with the portraits or product shots, relevant location/venue, pulling permits if necessary for outdoor locations, and we spend the time necessary to meet your business' requirements.
Multiple locations are possible, with guided posing instructions that are most flattering per everyone's unique look.
We cover whatever is necessary to capture the unique personal and/or corporate brand, personality, style, of the individual, and provide masterful editing and retouching to the level we discuss together.
We start with a concept, styling, and branding consultation to delve into your business' marketing requirements and we collaborate on a unique creative vision to create one of a kind marketing pieces (or even simply your best linkedin or social media shot that you ever had!)
We provide commercial marketing visuals from apps to trade show displays, and also provide branding consultation and logo / business identity marks and systems.

Tips for great head shots and defining your personal brand:
"The most beautiful cosmetic you can have is PASSION." -Yves Saint Laurent
When I'm creating headshots with my clients, sometimes my clients get caught up in what expression should be on their face, and what they should be doing with their body language. Of course that's important and we go through posing techniques, body language & facial expressions, but in reality whenever things get stale or someone feels STUCK, I ask them to stop posing and simply tell me what service they provide, how they can help their clients, what it is they do. Talk to me like I'm the client. Tell me about it. Right here. I wanna know. BAM! They are so passionate about what they do, they immediately become natural and animated and start telling me all about it. "THAT'S what I wanted to see!" I tell them! And then we're back on track. That's the whole point of the headshots. That's what we want to capture.
Keepin' it real. Letting the passion show.
That doesn't mean applying different filters to the same set of selfies you took on that day you thought you looked really great.
It means hiring a professional to spend a few hours with you on location where you can relax and collaborate on different looks, move to different locations, change to different clothes, style your hair and makeup in different ways, and really showcase different aspects of your self and your personality.
You need a photo that says you're approachable, confident, and relaxed, which is also what 'sexy' looks like!
A photo that says looking great, happy, and confident just happens naturally for you :)
This way you can rotate your best photos and not be stale with the same one headshot forever.
You don't want just ONE great photo of yourself, but several.
Take inspiration from high school and college senior portraits, women's 'goddess' portraits, fashion magazines, and incorporate them into your relaxed business / personal branding headshot. You can achieve several looks in your one photoshoot with a change of clothes and mood.
For your personal brand you should have a series of looks that together show who you are.
Take the opportunity to have fun and create a 'goddess' shot or something out of the ordinary to see yourself in a different light.
Notice how the change of clothing, posing, and location can create a totally different look.
We didn't do any 'business' looks here, but you can just imagine what they would look like with a different outfit, different pose, and yet another location.
A collection of shots that together showcase your brand (your personality; what you want to convey). You rotate them as you like, and you use specific 'flavors' for specific messages, whether it be for various social media platforms or for different parts of your business (your card, your website, your fliers, the company directory, your album or book cover, etc.)
Use those various professional photos in different places to strengthen your personal brand.
For instance, you want your brand to convey a sense of trust and of having known you forever. You can't just show an archaic and stiff headshot with a blue backdrop 'a la school photo' and use that same tiny thumbnail across your website and marketing collateral and think that anyone will actually feel like they trust you and know you, or that they WANT to get to know you.
Show them different aspects of yourself, visually, to tie in with your other messaging or as stand-alone visuals that speak a thousand words.
Don't just count on the same old one avatar until you change it 5 years later.
So you gained or lost a few or more pounds, you went short or long, got more gray, went more blond, got some more laugh lines, etc.
Don't try to live in the past with an outdated picture because you're afraid it's the best one you'll ever have.
As a business owner myself, I know that the products and services and focus of my business can evolve over time.
Keeping your brand current means keeping the visuals of your brand current, too.
Most likely, YOU represent your brand. In many cases YOU literally ARE your brand.
That's why your headshots need to stay current and fresh. At your headshot session we capture a variety of looks so that you can keep your favorites in your image bank and pull out a fresh shot when your PR asks for a headshot to accompany a press release, when you update a page on your website, when you are asked to speak at a conference, etc.
There are many times you'll need a fresh new headshot and also many times when you'll need to pull a never-before-seen great one out of your image bank from your last photoshoot.
These are business assets and marketing tools and are part of your visual brand identity. I can't begin to stress how important they are. But you know that too, otherwise you wouldn't be here! Not to mention you can use them for your personal use, too. At our photoshoots we can change gears easily and create photos of you that you'll LOVE, for both personal and business use.
With a professional photographer and digital artist, everything from the most flattering posing to the most flattering lens and the most flattering lighting and location and the most flattering clothing will be planned with you. Then, be prepared for the most flattering professional retouching!
Most headshot photographers don't include professional retouching, so you need to hire two different people. With 15th Street Photography™, your professional retouching is included.
You'll be the real you, the natural unedited-looking you that casually looks like you just popped out of a magazine but who still looks like you! Like you just happened to wake up that way. Never over-edited. Just confident and beautiful and real, as you exist today.
After all, you're better than ever RIGHT NOW.
You can even schedule a family photoshoot, or a couples shoot, or a mother/daughter shoot, and then have your own branding portraits created at the same time. Of course it's better when we can take the time to completely style and focus on YOU, but if you're thinking of family portraits anyway, with 15th Street Photography we can accommodate a few headshots into a family session as well.
5. Hire a professional, Take the Time, Do it Right, Do it regularly
15th Street Photography™ is a boutique studio offering something very valuable: our time, and custom artwork.
Yes, time is money.
So when the price-shoppers look for the lowest priced headshots, they are also getting the least amount of time and thought put into something that is very important and should be well-planned and orchestrated!
Also, just a note: when you're shopping for the lowest priced headshots, they usually use techniques such as how Walmart implements loss leaders to pull you in for Thanksgiving supplies (taking a loss on one small item so that you'll spend more on everything else while you're there.) At those sites, you'll note that retouching is an additional charge per image, and full-body portraits are charged extra, as is heading out on location, going to multiple locations, changing your look, etc.
I prefer to keep everything transparent from the start, and I let you know in great detail what is included, and it's a lot! A lot of time and energy. I'm passionate about what I do, going back to our tip #1 above. And I hope it always shows!
Your personal brand, your image, is not something to leave to a cell phone pic, to a selfie with your arm up in the air pointed down with a wide angle lens on your nose, to an instagram filter, or to a bad photoshop job by a friend who "has" photoshop (very different than a digital artist who understands the nuances of professional retouching done right).
Nor is it to be left to a 5-20 minute snapshot by a friend or even a professional who either does not have your best interest at heart, or who doesn't have the time or skill to have your best interests executed and delivered to you!
We are not a high-volume studio. High Volume studios usually have very specific locations where you can show up, pose for 20 minutes in front of the same backdrop, and get the shot that everyone else gets based on a formula. Formulas make life easy, but they are also boring and predicable. Are you?
With 15th Street Photography™, you commission an artist to create unique artwork for you and with you.
Every photo shoot is custom, and every outcome is just as unique as YOU.
We spend the time necessary to capture your true personality. We spend the hours to collaborate on a perfect location and 'look' for you.
You will love your head shots!
